Superfast broadband is essential to the economic growth of Cambridgeshire

Fast, reliable Internet connections are vital for economic growth because it means businesses across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough can thrive and compete in a global world.

Increasing numbers of people work flexibly from home and better broadband means they can keep connected without having to spend time and money travelling.

Connecting Cambridgeshire has already rolled out superfast broadband to thousands of businesses and homes that would not be able to get it otherwise, and is aiming for 99% coverage by the end of 2020.

The programme has previously helped almost 2000 businesses across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to get connected, buy the latest technology, gain vital digital skills and create jobs, through several Government and European Union funded grant schemes

Now eligible businesses can boost their connectivity and get ready for gigabit speeds of the future through the Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (see below).

Full fibre networks are the future and getting ready for a gigabit speed (1,000 megabits) is a key step for most businesses.

Businesses and business parks will be supported to access the new gigabit fibre networks through the Government’s £67million Gigabit Broadband Voucher scheme, announced in March 2018.

Gigabit vouchers can be used by small and medium sized businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection.

Businesses can claim up to £3,000 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can benefit from the scheme as part of a group project which also includes businesses, and can claim for a voucher of up to a value of £500.
