Using data and emerging technology to address common local challenges

What is a Smart Place?

Smart Places is the term used to describe a village, town or city using data and emerging technology to address common local challenges in areas such as transport, connectivity and air quality. Data from sensors and other devices around the local area will be processed and analysed providing the smart place with information to help them influence behaviours and improve economic strength, sustainability and quality of life for the local residents.

The Smart Places Initiative

The Smart Places Initiative is part of the Connecting Cambridgeshire programme, led by Cambridgeshire County Council which is working in collaboration with communities, local authorities, town councils, businesses and academia. The team has already established the Smart Cambridge programme, which has helped to make Cambridge one of the top ten smart cities in the country, and is now looking at how smart solutions can be used in other areas of Cambridgeshire.
