What are we doing to improve coverage?
The Government wants Britain to have the best superfast broadband network in Europe, so each region is developing its own Local Broadband Plan to make it happen.
The plan for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is for at least 90% of homes and businesses to have access to superfast broadband with speeds of at least 24 Mbps and better broadband connectivity for all remaining premises by 2015.
The Government has allocated £6.75m through Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) to complement up to £20m of funding from Cambridgeshire County Council and up to £3m from Peterborough City Council.
The Connecting Cambridgeshire project is using this public money to attract substantial private sector investment from suppliers who will work with us to rollout superfast broadband across the county.
The success of the project relies upon take up of broadband services, so we need to show the level of demand for superfast broadband among our businesses and communities.
