Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme
The Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme has been developed by the UK government to provide access to a subsidised broadband installation to homes and businesses that are unable to access a broadband service with a download speed of at least 2Mbps and who will not benefit from the superfast broadband roll out.
The scheme provides support towards the cost of equipment and installation of a satellite or wireless broadband connection so that a basic broadband service can be purchased for a first year cost of no more than £400 (taking account of any up front costs and the 12 month service charges). The subsidised installation can also be used to access higher cost packages with higher speeds or greater monthly data caps.
If you currently experience poor broadband speeds, are unable to obtain an affordable broadband service at all and are not currently included in plans to rollout fibre broadband access to your premises, the scheme will provide you with access to a basic broadband service that will offer speeds of at least 2Mbps.
Originally due to conclude at the end of 2017, the Government has extended the scheme until the end of 2018.
If you are eligible for a subsidised installation you will be able to choose a service from any of the retail service providers that are part of the scheme.
