Smart Cambridge Supports Transport Plans

March 16, 2017

The Greater Cambridge City Deal Board have approved  plans to use technology to help improve transport options – including investigating integrated ticketing, online ticket purchase and the feasibility of driverless vehicles – as part of the Smart Cambridge programme.

The proposals will support City Deal objectives by encouraging more people to use sustainable transport for door-to-door journeys and helping to reduce congestion.

The proposals aim to support City Deal objectives by encouraging more people to use sustainable transport for door-to-door journeys therefore cutting congestion.

In 2017, Smart Cambridge will launch a free mobile app (also available online) to give real time information to bus and other transport users to make travelling easier and encourage non-car travel.

Work is already underway to improve the real-time information at bus stops in Greater Cambridge by using the GPS trackers on buses, blue-tooth technologies to count traffic and monitor congestion, and sensors to capture data on air quality.
