Superfast broadband in South East Cambridgeshire

South East Cambridgeshire residents waiting for better broadband are being reassured that they have not been left out of the roll-out programme.

Connecting Cambridgeshire’s Programme Director Noelle Godfrey will attend an open meeting today called by the constituency’s new MP Lucy Frazer to give an update on the roll-out in local areas and explain how the programme is working to connect as many areas as possible with fibre.

Representatives of BT and Openreach have also been invited to explain the challenges of extending the fibre network in rural areas and how new combined copper and fibre cabinets are part of the solution.

They will respond to a wide range of residents’ queries collated by the MP’s office over the summer, many of which have been answered directly by the Connecting Cambridgeshire team through emails, parish meetings and website updates.  An update for these areas is available here.

Many parish areas in South and East Cambridgeshire districts are live or will be live with fibre by the end of 2015, which means over 49,000 homes and businesses, that would not get it otherwise, can choose to upgrade to high speed broadband.

Connecting Cambridgeshire is using additional Government funding to extend the roll-out during follow-on phases in 2016-2018 to connect areas that are harder to reach, or where coverage and speed is not as good as anticipated after cabinets have gone live.
